The 1st Generation Of Computer

                                                                The 1st Generation Of Computer

The period of the 1st generation of computer was from 1946 to 1959. The vacuum tube was used in the 1st generation of computers. The vacuum tube was invented by Lee De Forest in 1906.

The computer of 1st generation was very costly to operate and it also produced a large amount of heat. The first generation of computer was dependant on low-level programming language i.e:- machine-level language.

The 1st generation of computer was not capable of performing multitasking work at the same time because it didn't support multi-programming.

It used to have very limited storage due to magnetic drums used in computers.

The first general-purpose electronic computer of the first generation was ENIAC. The ENIAC stands for Electronic Numerical Integrator Computer.

18000 vacuum tubes were used to build ENIAC computers in 1943.

It used to have multiple registers for a single calculation because that the size of the computer was very huge. Big rooms were used to install large computers made of vacuum tubes.

In 1949,  another device was built at Cambridge called EDSAC.  EDSAC stands for Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator.

After that EDVAC (Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer) was developed by a team made by Richard Snyder.

After EDVAC, the UNIVAC  computer was developed.UNIVAC stands for Universal Automatic Computer. It was the first successful commercial computer. It used to have the magnetic tape.

It was developed using 5000 vacuum tubes.
